Different from high-throughput applications on HPLC or CE, where structural assignments of glycans are merely based on retention times, in-depth structural analysis reveales information on glycan mass and monosaccharide composition, monosaccharide identity, linkage sites of monosaccharides, their anomeric states and glycan sequences according to the needs of the customer. In-depth structural analysis becomes important, when glycoproteins are expressed in invertebrate or plant cell-based expression systems, which can introduce unusual structural elements into glycans.
